Digital Media.

Forms of digital media:
- Computers
- Mobile Phones
- Internet
- Ipods
- Televisions
- Laptops
- Discs
- Computer Games.

Digital media is based on the binary numeral system is used. The number 0 and 1 are used to code all digital data.

A bit or binary digit is the basic unit of information in computing and telecommunications.

The byte is a unit of digital information in computing and telecommunications, that most commonly consists of eight bits.

The sampling rate, sample rate, or sampling frequency defines the number of samples per second taken from a continuous signal to make a discrete signal.File:Analog signal.png

In computer graphics, color depth or bit depth is the number of bits used to represent the color of a single pixel in a bitmapped image or video frame buffer. This concept is also known as bits per pixel, particularly when specified along with the number of bits used. Higher color depth gives a broader range of distinct colors.

1 bit (2 colors)

2 bits (4 colors)

4 bits (16 colors)

8 bits (256 colors)

24 bits (16,777,216 colors, "truecolor")

Colour depth effects both still and video digital media but sampling rate only effects video. This is because sampling rate defines the number of samples per second of something meaning that it's moving and still digital media doesn't move.

The Drawing Tools in Word.

I made this using microsoft word. To make it i had to insert shapes and use the option of making them 3D.

Painting Tools.

The purpose of this task is to identify the function of each of the tools in a paint program.
A paint program is a graphics program that edit bitmapped images. Bitmapped images are composed of individual pixels. Even if a circle is drawn in a bitmapped image, the circle is not recognized with file as an object. To edit the circle you must edit each pixel that makes up the circle.

Pencil- Allows you to draw a free-form line with the selected line width.

Fill with colour- Allows you to fill a whole area with the colour you've chosen.

Text- Allows you to insert text into the picture.

Eraser- Allows you to erase parts of the picture.

Colour picker- Allows you to pick a colour from the picture and use it for drawing.

Magnifier- Allows you to change the magnification for a part of the picture.

Graphic Terms.

This is a small list of terms that we need to understand for our graphics topic.

animated gif - Often used on the web to provide moving icons and banners. The GIF89a format supports multiple frames that give the impression of motion when displayed in sequence, much like a flip book.

Crop- To trim or cut an image.
Dpi- (dots per inch) a measure of resolution used for printed text or images, the more dots per inch, the higher the resolution.
Jpeg- A type of format for an image.
Resolution- The maximum number of pixels that can be displayed on a monitor.
Pixel- The smallest element of an image that can be individually processed in a video display system.
File extension- Suffix at the end of a file name e.g jpeg.

bmp- file name extension.
Frame- allows people to present documents in different views.
Compression- Reduction in size of data in order to save space or transmission time.
Frame buffer- A video output device that drives a video display from a memory buffer containing a complete frame of data.

File:Sun sbus cgsix framebuffer.jpg
Video card- generates output images to a display.
Colour depth- the number of bits used to represent the colour of a single pixel in a bit mapped image or video frame buffer.
