Graphic Terms.

 This is a small list of terms that we need to understand for our graphics topic.

animated gif - Often used on the web to provide moving icons and banners. The GIF89a format supports multiple frames that give the impression of motion when displayed in sequence, much like a flip book.



Crop- To trim or cut an image.
Dpi- (dots per inch) a measure of resolution used for printed text or images, the more dots per inch, the higher the resolution.
Jpeg- A type of format for an image.
Resolution- The maximum number of pixels that can be displayed on a monitor.
Pixel- The smallest element of an image that can be individually processed in a video display system.
File extension- Suffix at the end of a file name e.g jpeg.

bmp- file name extension.
Frame- allows people to present documents in different views.
Compression- Reduction in size of data in order to save space or transmission time.
Frame buffer- A video output device that drives a video display from a memory buffer containing a complete frame of data.

Video card- generates output images to a display.
Colour depth- the number of bits used to represent the colour of a single pixel in a bit mapped image or video frame buffer.
